Job Title: Associate Engineer

SUMMARY
The Associate Engineer provides both sustainability and energy efficiency engineering consulting services to clients in the existing commercial and institutional building sectors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the development of client relationships on the basis of demonstrated technical excellence, creativity, integrity and customer service.

Performs analyses of building conditions as they apply to energy efficiency, indoor air quality and other sustainability metrics.

Performs analyses of building energy use, including development of targets, as well as other building sustainability benchmarks.

Performs surveys of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in existing buildings to assess equipment condition, life expectancy, maintenance quality and budget replacement costs.

Performs preliminary and in-depth energy audits. Calculates energy savings using spreadsheet and computer hourly simulation software. Determines retrofit implementation costs utilizing cost estimating manuals, software and contractor quotes.

Consults with clients to provide a technical and economic basis for their business decisions, including guiding clients through the LEED and EnergyStar certification processes.

Writes and presents reports, or assists in the drafting and presentation of reports, to communicate results of engineering work to client management and technical personnel.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, a building science or a related field and experience in the building sustainability and/or energy efficiency field.

Engineer in Training (EIT) registration.

0 - 3 years’ experience related to building sustainability, energy or HVAC systems.

Strong proficiency in Excel and Word applications.
